Customer Notice – Repairs from the flood damage

With the Centre having suffered significant damage during the flash floods earlier this summer, we have now been able to schedule the majority of the repair works and wanted to provide this update as it may have some impact on your use of the Centre in the weeks ahead.

Squash Courts
We are pleased to confirm that Squash courts 6 & 7 have had new floors laid and these courts are now playable again.

Norman Booth Building (NBB)
As mentioned in the previous update, much of the corridor flooring tiles around the ground and first floors were damaged and have been removed, leaving the subfloor uncovered to dry out. The new flooring cannot be laid until the subfloor has been certified as dried out, although expectation is that the laying of the new floor will take place during early-mid December 2021.

The Balcony Café/Bistro laminate flooring was also soaked through and damaged. We expect replacement of this to be completed in line with the corridor flooring.

Jean Brown Indoor Arena (JBIA)
While the JBIA escaped the worst of the floods, some water did make it into the Sports Hall which has caused irreparable damage to the wooden sprung floor. We have received approval to have a whole new floor laid for all 12 courts, which will restore the Badminton/Netball court surface back to its’ Olympic playing standard.

Of course, this does mean a period of disruption which the Management Team have sought to schedule at the least impactful time for all users of the JBIA. The removal work will start on Monday 29th November 2021 and the Sports Hall will re-open for bookings on Monday 10th January 2022

During this time the JBIA will remain open for studio and top floor bookings, with Netball activity relocated to the outdoor courts, and as much Badminton activity as possible relocated to the Main Hall in the NBB. The Main Hall is primarily used for the Gymnastics Junior Course programme, which will limit availability for member bookings and programmed activity, although the Junior programme does shuts down for the festive period from 20th December – 3rd January inclusive.

Those members who are most affected by the temporary closure of the JBIA will be contacted directly in the coming days, and further updates will also be provided via the app in due course.

If you have any queries around the works, please feel free to speak to the Duty Manager when visiting the Centre.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
