Members Update Fri 31st July 2020

As we approach the end of the first week since re-opening on Saturday 25th July, we would like to thank all members and users who have already made bookings and visited the Centre this week.

Feedback has been incredibly positive around interaction with staff, the revised facility layouts and structured cleaning regimes, and in particular the safe but relaxed feel of the Centre while visiting.

We have had over 2,000 bookings made for sessions so far across all activities, and have seen several full classes with the busiest peak gym sessions running at close to 70% of capacity. The badminton hall has already sold out for evenings twice, although we have the ability to open up for more bookings over the coming weeks, so there are plenty of slots available to book – simply download the RSL Mobile App or visit the Online Bookings portal to book now.

Following a successful first week, we are delighted to be
preparing for the launch of phase 2 of the re-opening; with governing body guidance under continual review, and with member feedback being received; subject to the continued smooth operation of the Centre next week, we will be expanding the activities available from Monday 10th August as follows:

  • Squash & Racketball will return for sides-only singles play and for coaching sessions, in line with the latest England Squash guidelines
  • Tennis & Badminton bookings will have the option to book and play doubles, under governing body guidance which requires social distancing to be maintained with playing partners, even while on court

Updated playing rules and access to advanced bookings for Squash/Racketball will be available early next week.

The Outdoor Arena is also seeing the phased return of team sports bookings, with training and competitive Football being able to resume, along with small group Netball training on the outdoor courts. These sessions will also be bookable online.

We will continue to monitor usage, as well as government, industry and sporting governing body reviews in order to allow the gradual return of more activities and facilities; and will continue to provide regular updates.

A reminder that the Centre is open from 8am – 10pm midweek and from 8am – 6pm on weekends; reception is open until an hour before closing each day, so if you have any queries around bookings or for phase 2 of our return, please feel free to email or contact reception on 020 8498 1010
