1967
Members of North Ilford Tennis Club begin exploring plans for a new multi-sport facility after concerns grow over the future of their existing site. The vision for a community sports centre serving the wider borough is born.
1968
The Redbridge Sports Centre Building Committee is formally established to oversee fundraising, planning, and development of the proposed centre.


1968–1972
Extensive fundraising efforts take place, including sponsored walks, local donations, grants, and support from sporting bodies, businesses, and volunteers. The organisation raises over £100,000 towards the project — a major achievement for a charitable community sports development at the time.
1971
Construction of the original Redbridge Sports Centre begins following years of planning, fundraising, and securing land agreements.
1974
Phase 2 development is completed, including the addition of a large sports hall and expanded storage facilities to support increasing community demand.


1977
Three new squash courts and an extended tennis pavilion are added as participation in racket sports continues to grow.
