Different Strokes to Celebrate 30th Anniversary at Redbridge Sports & Leisure

Different Strokes will celebrate its 30th anniversary at Redbridge Sports & Leisure on 24 April 2026, marking three decades of support for stroke survivors and their families. The event will be a special opportunity to recognise the resilience, determination and community spirit of members, while also reflecting on the charity’s lasting impact over the past 30 years.

Founded in 1996, Different Strokes is a UK charity dedicated to helping younger and working-age stroke survivors rebuild their lives after stroke. The organisation is distinctive because it is run by younger stroke survivors for younger stroke survivors, with a strong focus on active recovery, peer support and helping people regain confidence, independence and connection after life-changing experiences.

Over the years, Different Strokes has built a network of support and exercise groups across the UK, creating welcoming spaces where stroke survivors, carers and families can share experiences, advice and encouragement. Its London East group is based at Redbridge Sports Centre, where members meet regularly for specialist exercise sessions and mutual support, making Redbridge a fitting place to mark this important milestone.

The anniversary celebration on 24 April will be made even more memorable by the attendance of the Mayor of Redbridge, who will offer a short address to members. Guests will also enjoy a special display of cupcakes featuring the Different Strokes 30th-anniversary logo, adding a celebratory touch to an occasion that honours not only the charity’s history, but also the strength and unity of the community it has helped to build.

As Different Strokes celebrates 30 years in 2026, the anniversary event at Redbridge Sports & Leisure will stand as a tribute to everyone who has been part of that journey, from survivors and families to volunteers, supporters and local partners. It will be both a celebration of how far the charity has come and a reminder of the life-changing power of support, understanding and community.
