Members Update – Heating Infrastructure & Upcoming Developments

We are pleased to share that the Heating Infrastructure project is nearing completion. The original boilers—now over 50 years old—have been replaced with modern, energy-efficient models. This marks a major step forward in our commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

The next phase involves the installation of a Building Management System (BMS), which will give our management team the tools to monitor and control heating across the facility with greater precision. This system will ensure that heat is delivered only where and when it is needed, and automatically reduced in areas that have already reached optimal temperatures. The result: improved comfort for members and significant energy savings.

With an annual electricity consumption of 825,830 kWh, this upgrade is projected to reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 48.10 tonnes of CO₂ per year. This is a substantial contribution to our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact—and there’s still more to come.
Our management team is actively progressing several exciting projects, including:

  • Spinning Room Refurbishment – A full upgrade of the spinning room, including the replacement of all current bikes with new, high-performance models.
  • Padel Courts – Padel, one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, will soon be available at Redbridge.
  • Netball Court Resurfacing – Courts 2 to 5 are scheduled for resurfacing later this year to enhance playability and safety.
  • Men’s Changing Room Renovation – The men’s changing facilities will receive a long-awaited refurbishment to match the upgraded women’s changing rooms completed in 2018.
  • Solar Energy Initiative – We are exploring the installation of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to further reduce our reliance on grid electricity and support our sustainability goals.

There’s a lot to look forward to. Stay informed by downloading the RSL App and following the RSL Development Newsfeed for the latest updates.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to enhance your facilities and minimise our environmental impact.
