Different Strokes Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Special Event at Redbridge Sports & Leisure
Redbridge, London, 24 April 2026
Different Strokes marked its 30th anniversary today with a warm and memorable celebration at Redbridge Sports & Leisure, bringing together past and present members, supporters and special guests for a truly special occasion.
The event celebrated three decades of support for younger, working-age and retired stroke survivors, as well as their families, while recognising the strength of the community that Different Strokes has built over the last 30 years. The presence of both past and present members made the day especially meaningful, reflecting the lasting impact the charity has had on so many lives.
Guests heard speeches from Austin Willett, CEO of Different Strokes, Caroline George, Programme Organiser for the East London group, Wayne Alexander, CEO of Redbridge Sports & Leisure, and the Mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Beverley Brewer, all of whom paid tribute to the charity’s journey, the resilience of its members and the importance of continued support for stroke survivors. The celebration was made even more special by a visit from Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whose attendance added to the significance of the occasion.
The event also included a celebratory buffet with branded cakes, giving members and guests the chance to come together, share memories and enjoy the occasion in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Held at Redbridge Sports & Leisure, the celebration was a fitting way to honour the charity’s 30-year history and the people at the heart of it. More than just an anniversary event, the day served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community, peer support and the positive difference Different Strokes continues to make.
